What is the Pastoral Support Team?

The Pastoral Support Team’s role is to help, support and advise pupils; as well as to provide a safe place for parents and carers who have worries or concerns about their child. We aim to build trusting and empathic relationships with all our pupils and their families.

Pastoral care underpins personal development, and we know from experience that with outstanding pastoral care, children feel they belong, and their self-esteem flourishes because they feel valued and cared for.

How can the Pastoral Support Team help me?

Our Pastoral Team can offer support in a range of situations, such as:

  • Advice and support with your child’s behaviour at home or at school,
  • Advice and support about your child’s punctuality and attendance,
  • Concerns about any child’s welfare,
  • Help you to access information about difficulties you may be experiencing such as money worries, health etc,
  • Offering group work and one to one sessions with children in school,
  • Setting up routines,
  • Accessing food vouchers,
  • Signposting to useful websites and resources,
  • Help you to access information about difficulties you may be experiencing such as money worries, health etc,
  • Assistance with form filling,
  • Other concerns you may have relating to your child that you would like support with.

Supporting the pastoral needs of pupils sometimes involves working with external agencies. In these situations, we ensure that a confidential, professional, non-judgemental, and sensitive service is provided.

The Pastoral Support Team works with children at our school to help them access all aspects of school life. We offer a range of individual or group therapeutic interventions which aim to improve the mental health and wellbeing of our children.

Financial help:

If your family needs financial support, we can discuss with you the help the school can offer, and in addition we can signpost other people or agencies who may be able to help.

Family support workers:

We can refer you to Family Support workers, if required. The Hertford and Ware Village Schools Partnership Family Support Team’s overall commitment is to offer direct family support, packages to children and young people, group work in schools and the early intervention telephone consultation line. They aim to:

  •  identify and meet the needs of our schools and families to enable the students to reach and achieve their goals.

This support may help to:

  • Improve emotional wellbeing, mental health, and sexual health
  • Enhance children and family relationships
  • Improve pupil attainment and attendance
  • Enable schools to focus on education and learning
  •  Reduce risk-taking behaviour
