Supporting Reading

To be able to read is an essential skill that underpins all areas of learning and development.

The frequency of reading to children has a significant positive effect on cognitive skills, for example language, literacy and numeracy.

Research has shown that reading story books to children is one of the most important activities for developing knowledge and understanding of the world. It widens vocabulary and gives opportunities to learn interesting things including an empathy with other cultures.

Parents are the most important educator in a child’s life and it is never too early to encourage the love of books for your child.
